Looking at 2012 In 2011

Hi All...At the tender young age of 51, I was finally convinced to start my own blog. For those of you who don't know me personally a very brief bio - Married a second time, Three awesome kids from my first marriage (21, 21, & 18). I've lived in New York City and Long Island all my life. My parents were both born in Southern Italy - my family traces its roots in this country back 100 years now. Politically I've voted for both Republican & Democratic candidates although since 1992 it's been definitely slanted towards the Democrats. I now work as a Hardware Manager for Citigroup in NYC - I've been with the company in various roles since September 1981. The last time I was jobless was back in November1978.

As I look out over the political and economic landscape in this country today - I must say it looks as bleak as I can remember in a long time. I remember the early 1970s as being somewhat as dismal as it is now. I think the major difference between 1974 and 2011 is the level of external competition this country faces today. Thirty years ago this country had unquestioned influence over the entire planet, both economically and politically.

Today the major corporations in this country have yielded their production functions to Europe, Latin America and especially China. The bean-counters in this country have determined that it's cheaper to ship out all major components thousands of miles, have them assembled "over there" and then have them shipped thousands of miles back to us. The costs savings are apparently tremendous - and the cost to this country's work force is probably just as tremendous.

I voted for Barack Obama in 2008 and I have no regrets. I specifically blame the Republicans under Dick Cheney for adding 7 Trillion Dollars of debt to this country in 8 years. Although I liked and respected John McCain and would have voted for him in 2000, There is no way I could have supported him in 2008 - The economic policies he and his party support simply do nothing for the underprivileged in this country. And once he decided Sarah Palin was to be his running mate - he kinda hammered home the final nails into the coffin of his candidacy.

When I look at this woman today - I see a nothing more than a MILF that older Republicans want to hook up with. To the best of my knowledge, she has nothing new to offer in trying to resolve the daunting issues this country faces. I have yet to understand how the Republican Party in this country can look at this woman as being the best hope this country has to lead us into new territory.

I'm not going to review every stupid thing she's said - I'm not that prolific a writer. But this is a person who thought Africa was a country. This is a person who could not name one publication she read on a regular basis - she didn't even have enough imagination to say "The Anchorage Daily News" - even if she didn't read it - she would have at least looked interested enough in the world around her.  This is a person who demonized any kind of health care reform but sent her family over the border into Canada to take advantage of their health-care system. This is a woman who is either stupid or malicious enough to think that health-care reform will lead to "Death Panels". Other than "Roe Vs. Wade" - she could not name one single Supreme Court decision she disagreed with.

Look - I'm not out to demonize her. I do not put her anywhere near  "Cheney" territory (THAT Guy was Lucifer in a business suit - sorry). I am simply waiting for SOMEONE to tell me what qualifies her to be running for the head of a local Post Office. The fact that the Republican Party continues to flaunt her as their next savior is the most bewildering thing I've seen a major party do since Dan Quayle.

In closing - I am willing to read and reply to any counter-arguments any of you may have.PLEASE do not start ranting about President Obama - as far as I can see, he was (and is) the best candidate we had in 2008. I'm disappointed that things haven't turned around better but I am also definite that McCain would have done no better - probably worse. And if he didn't make his entire term - Then Ellie Mae Palin would be sitting in the Oval Office right now, trying to figure out how to turn on that "computer do-hickey"...

I'd love to hear an intelligent argument in FAVOR of this woman!!
